Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2025
Kube ("we," "our," or "the app") is a speedcubing timer application for iOS and Android. This policy explains what information Kube accesses, how it is used, and how it is stored. We believe in keeping things simple: Kube does not operate any servers, does not collect personal data for our own use, and does not sell or share your information with third parties.
Information stored on your device
All solve times, scrambles, settings, and preferences are stored locally on your device. This data never leaves your device except through iCloud backup (see below) and is not accessible to us.
iCloud backup
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, your solve history may be backed up to your personal iCloud account as part of standard iOS app data backup. This data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and is accessible only to you.
WCA account integration (optional)
Kube offers an optional integration with the World Cube Association (WCA). If you choose to sign in with your WCA account:
- Kube uses OAuth 2.0 to request an access token from the WCA on your behalf. This token is stored securely on your device using the operating system's secure credential storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keychain) and is never transmitted to any server operated by us.
- Using your access token, Kube fetches your public WCA profile (name, WCA ID), personal records, and competition history directly from the WCA API. This data is displayed within the app and is not stored persistently beyond your device's memory for the current session.
- Kube also fetches public competition data from the WCA API (upcoming competitions, competition metadata). This data requires no authentication and is public information.
- Signing out of your WCA account within Kube removes your access token from the device immediately.
Your WCA data is governed by the WCA Privacy Statement.
Analytics and crash reporting
Kube does not include any third-party analytics SDKs or crash reporting services. No usage data, diagnostic data, or identifiers are collected or transmitted.
Children's privacy
Kube is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. Because Kube does not collect personal information from any users, no special handling for children is required.
Third-party services
The following third-party services may be accessed by Kube:
- World Cube Association API — for official results, competition data, and OAuth authentication. See WCA Privacy Statement.
- Apple iCloud — for device backup, if enabled. See Apple Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
