Frequently asked questions
How do I start the timer?
Place both thumbs on the fingerprint targets at the bottom of the screen simultaneously. Hold until the display turns green, then lift both thumbs to start timing. This two-thumb pattern prevents accidental starts.
How do I stop the timer?
Tap anywhere on the screen to stop the timer. If you have the accelerometer stop method enabled in Settings, you can also slam the phone face-down on a flat surface to stop it — just like a Speed Stacks mat.
How does inspection work?
Enable inspection in Settings. When inspection is on, arming the timer (both thumbs, release when green) starts a 15-second inspection countdown instead of the solve timer. During inspection, place your thumbs again and hold until green, then release to start your solve. A solve started after 15 seconds receives a +2 penalty; after 17 seconds it is a DNF, per WCA regulations.
How do I add a +2 or DNF penalty to a solve?
Tap any solve in the Times tab to open the solve detail view. Tap +2 or DNF to apply a penalty. Tap OK to clear it.
How do I delete a solve?
Tap the solve in the Times tab to open the detail view, then tap Delete and confirm. This cannot be undone.
What cube types are supported?
Kube supports 3x3, 2x2, 4x4, 5x5, Pyraminx, Skewb, and Megaminx — with WCA-standard scramble generation for each. Tap the cube type pill at the top of the timer screen to switch.
How does WCA integration work?
Tap the WCA tab and sign in with your WCA account using OAuth. Kube will display your official personal records, rankings, and upcoming competitions. Your WCA credentials are stored securely on your device and are never sent to any server we operate.
Why was I signed out of my WCA account?
WCA access tokens expire periodically. When this happens, Kube will automatically return you to the sign-in screen. Simply tap Sign in with WCA to reconnect — your solve history is unaffected.
Will my times be backed up?
On iOS, your solve history is backed up automatically via iCloud if iCloud backup is enabled for Kube in your device settings. You can also export your times manually from the Times tab using the export button.
The scramble diagram is missing for my cube type. Why?
Scramble diagram previews are currently supported for the 3x3 only. Support for additional cube types is planned for a future update.
